Research

Transgender health is a new and rapidly developing field. The Transgender Health Program supports sound and ethical research that seeks to improve our understanding of best practices in transgender health and social services, and that allows us to best serve the diverse needs of transgender people and loved ones in BC.

We have compiled information about results from studies done by other researchers as part of our work to create best practice guidelines and educational materials for service providers and transgender community members. As the Transgender Health Program grows, we hope to facilitate the development of new community-based health research initiatives, in partnership with transgender community organizations and academic researchers.

Staff can provide consultative services to public health researchers seeking to become more trans-inclusive in their work.

TRANSGENDER RESEARCH RESOURCES

• International Journal of Transgenderism
  The International Journal of Transgenderism was created by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) in 1997 as a vehicle for the electronic publication of original scholarly work relating to transgenderism. The journal also occasionally re-publishes previously published articles and books considered key to the field and which may not otherwise be readily available.

  Information about current transgender research studies. Website includes bulletin boards for academics and researchers to share information and collegial advice about transgender research projects.
