Within the Transgender Health Program, we define advocacy as working to make sure transgender community members (transgender people and loved ones) have access to appropriate health and social services. This includes addressing the individual and systemic barriers that make it difficult for transgender community members to access health and social services, helping people navigate the system, and also offering assistance when transgender community members are not treated with respect and dignity by service providers. Ultimately, we are striving to build a health and social care system that respects and values the transgender community.
Transgender Health Program staff are available to assist transgender community members who are struggling to obtain services or are experiencing mistreatment within the health/social care system. We can:
